The distinction between the Controller and CFO roles is often blurred. A company's Controller manages the systems, personnel and processes that make up the financial framework of the company. It's the Controller's job to make sure everything works right and produces the expected result: accurate statements on time, systems are operational, processes protect valuable resources, data is protected, things just work right.
No, it's not very sexy but, if this role is incomplete or non-existent in a company, very bad things can happen.
A great Controller will take things a step further, structuring the systems to capture and present information in an easily-digestible format for busy members of the management team. Reports tell them what they need to know, when they need to know it.
